Xingchen Liu

Xingchen is a PhD student at Lancaster Environment Centre, funded by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), under the supervision of Dr David Jacoby, Dr Adam Piper (ZSL), and Dr Stephen Thackeray (UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology). She holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Yunnan University, where her research explored the reproductive behavior differences among Cyprinid fish species of varying specialization in plateau regions, as well as the impact of altitude on fish reproduction. Her current PhD research investigates how closed hydrostatic environments influence various physiological behaviors, including reproduction, in migratory fish.

Research Interests

Xingchen’s research interests focus on the physiological and behavioral effects of environmental change on fish, with particular attention to behavioral differences across various life history stages. Passionate about fieldwork, she is keen on applying acoustic remote sensing techniques to study fish behavior on a small scale, aiming to uncover the behavioral mysteries of fish through a deeper understanding of their habitat characteristics. Additionally, she enjoys working with different statistical models in fish ecology and is eager to integrate these models into her research for more insightful analyses.
